Hush
lyrics by Robert Brown
2001: all rights reserved

I have marched,
for years on end.
My comrades fell,
as I defend,
The goals I set.
My armies fled,
fell as they ran,
trampled our dead.

Rush, back through the fields, I am hush,
All the ghosts of the dead are awake, I'm afraid

The ghost of comrades
Dead and gone
rise in my path
to do me wrong.
As wars are fought,
Armies abide.
Should I be tried,
For men who died?

Rush, back through the fields, I am hush,
All the ghosts of the dead are awake, I'm afraid

I was wondering, who is singing the version on Twisted and Broken?
the "Failing you" Flashback mix....

is it Madame Archel, or?
Let me bleed,
escape is bleeding.

No

"hush" is sung by Kristina. Kristina also sung Child King, and a couple others.

Twisted and Broken is sung by Tracie Markely - you don't know her, shes only done that one song with us. THere was a breif time she was thinking about singing with us, but the touring and staying up late doesn't appeal to everyone.

Is there a back story to this song? It would be interesting to know if there's a story, perhaps a particular scene, that this song speaks about. The lyrics beg to be told in picture, or maybe it's just me. My fingers are itching to draw this.

There are a couple levels of back story to this:

The first is the obvious one: A general being haunted by the ghosts of his falling soldiers, who blame his decisions for there deaths.

A little deeper down, this wa a metaphore for the band itself. Over the many years we've been together, we've acumulated quite a list of "fallen". Everytime we turn around, it seemed we'd bump into some one who WAS in Abney Park, and it felt a little like being huanted.

This is one of my fave songs, and I thank you guys for making it. It makes me shiver, but in a good way. It's beautiful.

I agree with everyone, this is a spooky song. I get the imagery of the soldiers haunting the general. But your other story is interesting too. Have you had many members come and go?
